Everyone at SVYF were delighted to welcome 145 archers to our woodland for our first open shoot of 2022.

Chairman Martin Cane started proceedings at 10.30, and we were fortunate enough to have good weather throughout the day.

The course consisted of 36 targets – mainly 3D’s with some faces thrown in, with an extra special face painted by long standing club stalwart, Bernie Francis before he passed away last year.

A massive thank you to everyone who came. Judging by all your comments you all had a great day.

Everyone was very well looked after by the ladies in the kitchen who offered the usual great range of breakfast sandwiches, burgers, hotpots and cake!

Thank you to our course layers who set up a great course with something for everyone. Thank you to all the members who gave up their time to assist the course layers in setting up the course in the weeks leading up to the shoot – all your help is appreciated.

Thanks and see you soon.

It was an absolute pleasure to welcome 125 archers back to our woodland for the first time in two years due to Covid. It was a typical October day, a little chilly and cloudy but we were very lucky with the bulk of the raining staying away having just a couple of very light showers.

Chairman Martin Cane started proceedings at 10.30 with his usual wit and good humour – think we’ve all missed that over the last two years, before all the archers were lead out onto the course in preparation for the days shooting.

The course consisted of 36 targets – mainly 3D’s with some faces thrown in. And faces that hadn’t been seen before. These appeared to go down very well with lots of positive comments.

A massive thank you to everyone who came. It was great to see you all and to be hosting an open shoot again. Judging by all your comments on social media, you all had a great day.

Everyone was very well looked after by the ladies (and Mark!) in the kitchen who offered the usual great range of breakfast sandwiches, burgers, hotpots and cake! SVYF are renowned for our catering and a break in hosting open shoots certainly didn’t effect the first class offering. We don’t think anyone left hungry! Thank you to all the members who donated cake – there was a lot!! But it all went by the end of the day…. Archers really do love cake! Respect to the gentleman who had cake for breakfast! ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿง

Thank you to our course layers who set up a challenging but fair course โ€“ hopefully you will all agree, it was a great course with something for everyone. Thank you to all the members who gave up their time to assist the course layers in setting up the course in the weeks leading unto the shoot – all your help is appreciated.

It is with regret that following this evenings announcement, the club will have to close with immediate effect.

Further to the Government guidelines on 4th January 2021, there is a further National lockdown and archery must cease. The government guidelines are pretty clear โ€“ protect the NHS and stay at home. All outdoor sporting facilities are to close therefore all clubs/ranges and other archery activities stop.

The closure is expected to be at least till mid-February. We will monitor guidelines and advice from the Government and NFAS and will inform you of any updates.

Thank you for your understanding โ€“ stay safe.

Club covid-19 update

The committee of SVYF have been discussing the latest COVID-19 restrictions from the Government, the NFAS and our own restrictions including reviewing our risk assessment. After careful consideration, we have taken the difficult decision to cancel our October shoot. There is no guarantee that come October, the Governments restrictions will have changed enough to allow larger gatherings and with so many other restrictions that would need to be adhered to it certainly wouldnโ€™t be a โ€˜normalโ€™ open shoot. Therefore, for the safety of our members and all visiting archers, we are making the decision early to cancel the shoot and look forward to hosting our next open shoot in April 2021.Sadly, SVYF will also remain closed to visitors until at least January 2021.
